After review, replacement times for “Fuse & Relay Box” or “Wiring Harnesses” are not developed by Motor Information Systems. In the event that the “Fuse & Relay Box” or “Wiring Harnesses” must be replaced, an “on the spot evaluation” must be employed and the replacement time must be negotiated between estimators.

Motor Estimated Work Times are based on the premise of replacing new, undamaged parts on new and undamaged vehicles. If Motor were to develop Estimated Work Times for “Fuse & Relay Box” or “Wiring Harnesses”, we would have to choose from the following approaches:

1. Develop Estimated Work Times to replace entire “Box” or “Harnesses” from start to finish

2. Develop Estimated Work Times to replace entire “Box” or “Harnesses” after complete access is gained.

Both choices lead to the same problematic situation: adapting the Estimated Work Times to real collision situations. Depending on the extent of the damage to the vehicle, the degree of access would vary widely from full access in stripped-vehicle situations all the way too little or no access in situations where the “Box” or “Harnesses” was damaged in an electrical fire. Determining parts required for removal, included/not included operations, overlap considerations, etc. would be impractical, if not impossible to employ into an estimating system.

MOTOR has concluded that an “on the spot evaluation” between estimators is the only accurate and mutually acceptable way to negotiate the Estimated Work Time when replacing the “Fuse & Relay Box” or “Wiring Harnesses”.
