Estimated UM Release Date: 03/15/2024 Proposed Resolution: MOTOR stated:
After review, in the Frame group, Frame & Components subgroup, the component classification of “s” has been applied to the Frame Assembly. Please Note: According to the MOTOR Guide To Estimating, “The purpose of classifying components is to describe physical properties of the component, and classifications may inform the estimator that specialized technician skill levels and/or tools may be required. Indicators are not intended to determine labor rates charged, or to be inclusive of all components.” A mechanical component is defined as follows: “Components that transform one form of motion or energy into another. Mechanical components would likely be serviced at a mechanical service facility rather than a body repair facility if that component failed during normal operation. Mechanical components will likely require a specialized technician skill level and/or specialized tools.” While some parts that are transferred may be considered mechanical components, the frame itself does not fit the description of a mechanical component under this definition. As stated above, classifications are not inclusive of all components. Usage of MOTOR component classifications to determine labor rates is at the sole discretion of the end user(s). Please note that any component can be designated as mechanical by the end user. MOTOR Estimated Work Times are not developed by grouping or adding several standalone operations into one single time. When replacing two or more components, the duplication of included labor procedures is known as overlap. When a labor overlap condition exists, less time is required to replace adjoining components collectively than is required when they are replaced.
individually. The R&I operations of all components attached to the frame were taken into consideration when developing the estimated work time for the R&R frame operation. While some components attached to the frame are mechanical components and some are body components, determined components labor rates are at the sole discretion of the repair facility and should be determined by an “on the spot evaluation” when the estimate is being written. |
